The manufacturer will detail the part they will sell you using a data-sheet. The data-sheet will describe what the device does and the physical package in which it comes. There may be more than one package for a part.
Each package has a set of electrical pins that you must connect to your circuit. The naming, allocation and description of these pins are in the data-sheet.
To use a part in DEX you will need to know its package, its pin-out and its recommended footprint.
