This video shows you how to quickly and easily adjust the length of several tracks so that their lengths are all the same. Here we have a sample circuit where there are eight tracks going from the left to the right of the PCB and in the middle, they must circumvent a couple of footprints. So, as you can see the track lengths are all different. This design has been purposely made simple so you can see the wood for the trees. There is little point in showing you a complex design as it would make it less apparent what is happening to the tracks. I want to make all the track lengths the same. To do this I click on the balance multiple button in the route menu. The balance multiple nets dialogue now appears. This is a mode less dialogue, meaning that it does not prevent you from using any of the controls in the menu.
How to Balance the Length of Several PCB Tracks
To balance the tracks, I first need to select them all by clicking on the first name at the top, and while holding the shift key down, I select the name at the bottom. Now that all the tracks are selected, I can quickly set all the tracks to the same length by clicking on the balance button. All the tracks are now balanced by the automatic insertion of track zigzags at appropriate points. I can set the zigzag pattern to be a sawtooth by checking the sawtooth checkbox and clicking on the balance button again. You see that the sawtooth pattern is less efficient at reducing the length and requires a longer stretch of track. To remove the zigzags, click on the remove zigzags button. To balance a smaller selection of tracks I first need to select them and again click on the balance button.
